Life has many ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ and hopefully you enjoy more of the former. For one family in particular this was not the case. Early in 2013 ORA were approached by Paul Winters, formerly of Hart Builders, and asked if we would be interested in helping a friend’s family by providing architectural services to help with a small project. Without hesitation we said yes.
The family in question had suffered a series of ‘downs’ and were in need of a change of fortune. The eldest son has severe cerebral palsy, is confined to a wheelchair and requires 24 hour care. His main carer was his father who sadly past away in late 2012. With inadequate facilities in the house and a young family to raise, tremendous pressure was put on the mum resulting in the eldest son being temporarily put in to specialist care.
Not wanting to move due to the support of family and friends there was an urgent need to change the accommodation at the family home. ORA designed and gained the necessary approvals for a 2 storey extension to the rear of the property that gave the son his own bedroom with a view to the rear garden and a bathroom. The upstairs provided two further bedrooms meaning that all the kids could enjoy their own space as the grow up.
This was a team effort and thanks have to go to Hart Builders, Kingdom Housing Association, Fife Council, Scott Bennett Associates and many of the trades who provide materials and labour free of charge. All of us at ORA are proud to be involved in the project and we wish the family all the best for the future.
