61 Bed Care Home, Chantry Close, Ipswich

Oliver and Robb were architects for this purpose built 61 Bed Care Home, providing nursing, residential and specialist dementia care for elderly people. Similarly to their first project at Rendlesham, the building has been designed to support people who suffer from impaired memory and ability to learn, helping to reduce stress and enabling them to retain their skills and independence.

The Care Home is a 3 storey building incorporating a basement area and is designed as a south facing “U” shape to create a sheltered and secure, central landscaped area incorporating a sensory garden for residents enjoyment and recreation. The 61 en-suite bedrooms are located on all floors providing bright, comfortable and spacious accommodation. A striking entrance feature incorporating a glazed curtain walling system has been created at the south west corner of the building presenting a welcoming aesthetic to visitors, relatives and residents alike. Day spaces, dining rooms and quiet rooms are located on each floor and have a southerly and westerly aspect over Public Parkland adjacent. The tight confines of the site determined that the central landscaped area be supplemented with external terraces for the benefit of the residents, particularly at upper floor levels.
