60 Bed Care Home, Bawtree House, Worcester Road, Sutton

ORA were commissioned, by Caring Homes Group Ltd, to develop a design proposal for a 60 Bed Care Home on a site that had a former 27 Bed Care Home. The existing discarded care home built in the 1960’s had lain empty for years and contained high levels of asbestos and has since been successfully demolished.

Key drivers for the design was the need for day spaces and dining areas to benefit greatly from natural daylight. Through the use of BIM modelling and sun path analysis, ORA were able to optimise the design without being detrimental to neighbouring properties. A striking entrance feature incorporating a curtain walling system has been created at the south west corner of the building, presenting a welcoming aesthetic to visitors, relatives and residents alike.

The new care home provides 60 bedrooms over 3 floors with a specialist dementia wing and barrier free access throughout. Each floor has supporting day spaces in a variety of forms and ancillary accommodation. The bedrooms are available in varying sizes and aspect allowing Caring Homes Group to offer variety to their elderly clients who, themselves, have differing needs.

Construction was completed in May 2016.
