Thermal bridging can lead to unnecessary heat loss in buildings and use of Thermal Modelling allows us to identify, assess and rectify areas of thermal bridging in construction detailing. The changes are often minor but the benefits can be significant.
As stringent government legislation and energy awareness leads to increased insulation levels in the fabric of buildings heat loss, due to thermal bridging, is becoming increasingly important. Building Regulations now require that this additional heat loss be taken into account when calculating the building’s energy performance and to demonstrate compliance, construction details need to be evaluated by a Competent Thermal Modeller using Thermal Modelling software.
The use of thermal simulation software and well-considered construction detailing can greatly benefit clients. Through improved thermal bridging details alone, we can reduce a building’s carbon emissions by approximately 10%. This has a significant impact on Building Regulations compliance, energy costs, the building’s carbon footprint and ultimately the construction cost.
