Campion Homes Ltd commenced construction work on a new residential development at Hawthorn Bank, Dunfermline in September 2016. Comprising of 39 villas on an attractive elevated site in Dunfermline the development enjoys quality southerly views across the River Forth towards Edinburgh and the Lothians. The site also benefits from its close proximity to excellent local transport links, schools, shops and leisure facilities. The development will be phased to suit Fife Council’s Education requirements.
At Hawthorn Bank, Campion have chosen to showcase their new range of house types designed by ORA. The 3 to 5 bedroom semi-detached and detached villas are using timber kit construction with high quality reconstituted stone and dry dash render to the elevations.
Associated with the development is the provision of 22 terraced and semi-detached affordable homes for Kingdom Housing Association. These are located in a nearby site that also benefits from the southerly aspect providing unbridled views across to the Pentlands.
Both sites share the same SUDS basin located in the south east corner of the affordable housing site in an area that had topographical challenges which meant it was underdeveloped. This decision created additional developable ground elsewhere.
Due to the steep topography of the private site there is a requirement for a number of substantial retaining walls using various construction methods such as sheet piles and gabion baskets. The levels meant that it was not practical to have a ‘Designing Streets’ approach to the site layout and therefore a traditional cul-de-sac solution was adopted.
